The Latest from L.K. Bennett

A few short years back, L.K. Bennett was revealed as Kate Middleton's shoe brand of choice. They were modern and yet somehow sensible and wearable enough so that she wanted to pair them with every major outfit she donned. Now the retailer has paired with it-Brit and Tank Magazine Publisher Caroline Issa for a capsule collection that modernizes their shapes in a fun, festive way. The great textures and pom pom detail are especially festive. Perfect for skinny jeans and a white blouse.

Black with a Pop of Poppy

Without even realizing it I've completely converted by Fall wardrobe to a collection of mostly black basics. I have the staples down pat and the shoes fairly figured out but I do get bored with my day-in day-out uniform. There's something nice about the Summer months where color, print and texture are the norm. This street style shot shows how just the tiniest bit of print can go a long way. Keep the rest of the outfit neutral--or dark--if that's your thing and swap in a few different tees to keep things interesting all season long.

The 5-piece Closet

I came across this photo and thought, what if I could get my closet down to 5 pieces that actually deliver? A chambray shirt, obviously. A black leather jacket--the fits and styles may change but it'll remain a constant year after year. Two blouses, one long sleeve, one cap sleeve, one graphic print one classically crisp white. Both perfect with heels and jeans for a night out or pencil skirt for meetings if that's your thing. Lastly a dress that'll take you places. Could you make it work with just these pieces? I'm starting to think life would be SO much easier!

Inspired: New Bracelet Style

I just came across a picture of this Aron & Hirsch bracelet and I'm so taken aback by how original it is. Never have I seen a bracelet that hits the wrist, this time hand, the way this one does. The curvature carefully fits the lines of the hand in such a way to create a statement and be something entirely new at the same time. It makes you think why it took a designer this long to do something this different.

My Home Office

I always sit and think about what I'd do with the luxury of a home office. Not what I'd work on, of course, but how I'd decorate it. This one, ripped from the pages of Vogue, shows something that is "done" without looking overdone. There are casual elements, like the strategically strewn L.L. Bean tote and a sleek white lacquer desktop to match even sleeker white MAC products. The tan and black key fabric is something that's on-trend while still being somewhat timeless and on a piece that's easy enough to reupholster. I love the way this room melds old with new and makes it easily comfortable at the same time.

Southwestern Jewelry Redux

There was a silver and turquoise starbust bracelet a few years ago that I still kick myself for not buying. And ever since, I've got my eyes peeled on every interesting piece of sterling and turquoise jewelry I see. These versions from the 2 Bandits are decidedly more modern (more straight lines, etc.) but I think the just is the same. Can I deal with these replacement versions since I missed out on the originals? Maybe something new is what I need? Take a look and see what you think. I think 2 Bandits may be onto something quite good.

Inspired Style: Kate Schelter

"The best paintings are created with a limited palette," Kate Schelter says. She advises brands is a creative director and fashion stylist and seems to have a penchant for vintage--which I still struggle with. See how she makes the most of her closet in this great, inspired video.

The New French Manicure

Je detest a French manicure. Can't quite explain why, I just can't quite get behind it. But I have to say that the new, modernized versions are making me take a second look. This one takes a two tone metallic approach with a matte grey base and a shiny tip that is near perfection. If you're unwilling to commit to the metallic trend in clothes, nails are your next best bet and it looks so jazzy, doesn't it?

The Chalkboard as Art

As I've gotten older I've started to think more and more about what kind of art I'd like to some day acquire and what styles best suit me. I just came across this kitschy version that pairs a black chalkboard inside a baroque-type frame so that you can customize your art on a whim. If you're not quite ready to commit you can create this customizable art for yourself in a flash and it's a fun way to inspire guests to get involved by drawing and sketching for themselves. Who said drawing time had to be left to the kids?

Seen: The Illusionist Dress

I've seen dresses like this a few times recently, ones that play with your sense of where the body begins and ends. The way the lines on the dress actually curve give you a tremendously flattering figure in a way that draws the eyes in, making you appear much narrower in the waist than you'd otherwise seem. It's a trick that designers are using to their advantage because wearers are loving the way they look--and feel. This version from Rachel Roy's diffusion line does the trick with an extra pop of color to keep things interesting.

SPOTTED: Spring from Banana Republic

I may have just put away all of my long dresses after an extended Summer of weddings and weekend getaways but now all I am seeing online are previews of what Spring has in store. Apparently, according to Banana Republic, it's the type of silhouettes that serve me well. Long maxi dresses that incorporate the best sailor stripes are bound to get major rotation from Spring through Summer--and are easy to dress up and down--while sophisticated detailing at the neckline and ruching at the waist make these designs look flattering and expensive all at the same time.

Wanted: NARS in Heat Wave

I had the good fortune of meeting Francois Nars over the weekend and getting to chat with Mandy Moore a bit about her makeup routine. I found out that among her favorites are Heat Wave, which, I've learned, tops most peoples lists as an alternative to red that's not quite as drastic and warmer on most complexions. Apparently even J. Crew coated their models in their September catalog with the color because it looks that good on almost everyone. It's going to my next purchase--and I'll spend that much time mustering the courage to wear it, but I just love the way it looks.

HEARD: Prabal Gurung to Target

Another season and Target's just announced yet another designer collaboration, set to debut in early February. This time it's Prabal Gurung, only one of the biggest names in design today. His edgy collections are always the ones that every editor is talking about and it's going to be equally exciting to see what he has in store for the mass retailer. This just-released picture shows one of his prints pared-down for the capsule collection and he's sure to entice in a whole range that is full of can't-miss statement pieces.

Street Style Inspiration of the Day: Muted Tones

I love the muted tones of this look and how she's wearing essentially a matching look, but does so in a subversive way, wearing two shades that are almost identical but just so slightly different. If you want to wear all black, try a deeper version on the bottom and slightly faded, near grey version on top, same goes for deep greens and oxblood for Fall. It give you a streamlined look without appearing too "done."

The New Suit: From A.L.C.

After a mid-Fall closet purge, I finally just parted ways with my original Theory black pants, the fit was just awful. Now it's time for something new, perhaps something a bit different than the boring and basic black that we all had to buy. What about a burgundy suit with embellishments or details along the side of the ankle-length pant leg? Wearing a shirt underneath the blazer that's just a hint lighter than the jacket? All so new and all so refreshing. Thank you, A.L.C., for this new interpretation.

First Look: The Holiday Collection from Target x Neiman Marcus

So months ago we all got really excited that Target and Neiman Marcus were joining forces in a never-before-seen collaboration to bring together amazing CFDA-caliber designers for a holiday capsule collection. Now the first images of the collection have been released and some of the pieces--not surprisingly--look amazing. I'm particularly smitten with these two tabletop boxes that have the designer's (Eddie Borgo on top and Phillip Crangi on the bottom) touches. They're perfect for keepsakes, odds and ends, and infusing your space with a bit of designer personality.

Street Style Inspiration for the Weekend

A pink taffeta dress that looks like it's straight out of the 1950s with a gorgeous almost iridescent applique. It's made new by retro cat-eye frames and a side part that makes the whole look fresh. I love everything about this. The dress may have a conservative cut and shape but everything about the wearer is so thoroughly modern that it works--and works so well. Plus the pink is so pink, that I'd even wear it for Fall, when you'd least expect it. Pair the whole thing with a leather moto jacket for contrast or a big, oversized camel colored cardigan for a dressed-down approach.

How To: Wear a Military Coat

Spotted at the Frieze Art Fair in London, this beautiful art aficionado was spotted in a true-to-form military coat.Might I say, this is a hard thing to pull of. But I think she does quite a nice job. I think since there are so many very hard details about the coat, I'd use softer elements with it. The sheer tights are a nice touch, as are the patent brogues which are sweet but not too feminine. I'd even go for a softer lip to work in more femininity into the look for even greater contrast but I think the whole thing is really well done. I think you could even pair this jacket with a nice waist belt for a cinched look and figure-flattery.

I Want: Eddie Borgo Anything

I've always had a huge affinity for anything Eddie Borgo. It's huge, oversized, screams '80s opulence and it just plain goodness. This latest look at his Spring '13 collection is everything. It's chunkier than his latest seasons and goes for more structural metals, as compared to his cone jewelry that has been a hit now for years. I'm thinking that despite this being so heavy looking, it will still look amazing layered--the more you add on, the better.

Total Envy: Closet Organization

There is nearly nothing practical about the way this closet is set-up, but I think that since mine is so petite, I happen to like anything that looks like it has more space than mine. The way these shirts are organized is completely unconventional, but it reminds me of a store, which would make getting dressed so much more excited every morning. The organization on the bottom shelves is amazing. Closet envy, it's a real thing.

How To: Wear Winter White

Though it's after Labor Day, I'm not quite ready to part with my white denim. This picture gave me inspiration of how to wear it well into Fall/Winter. The deep navy sweater in a long hem adds a wintry fit and fresh new spin to the white pair in a way that is decidedly different than how I'd wear them during Summer. The white on-trend sneakers makes the look somehow dressed-down and sporty while the quilted handbag lends it some ladylike appeal. The combo is off-kilter but somehow personal. It really works.

The Chiffon-trimmed Cardigan

As Fall imparts it's overdue chill, I've noticed I keep turning to the same few sweaters over and over. My limited rotation is already getting tiresome. And it's only mid-October. I just saw this chiffon-trimmed cardigan and thought it may be a sweet way to update one I already own, or freshen up a plain one that I can find from J. Crew or the Gap. From the local fabric shop, a delicate, near sheer chiffon should run the length of the hem and add extra a few extra inches, probably around 2-4. It adds a delicate appeal that's sweet and unexpected.

The Perfect Gift: Silk Sachets

It's growing increasingly challenging to come up with appropriate gifts to bring to people's homes and as small gifts to give people for impromptu birthday celebrations. I think I've maxed out on the candle gifting and wine is often, but not always, appropriate. I've been hearing more and more about Santa Maria Novella and I love their souped up bath and body products that boast a European sensibility. Translation? Fancy. You can find them in a variety of places, and I've got my eye on these silk sachets that are ideal for keeping everything from your unmentionables to your tees faintly fragrant from lavender, sweet vanilla, etc. It's something you'd never buy for yourself which makes it the perfect thing to get for/from someone else.

New Coffee Table Book

My coffee table book collection keeps growing and I have to say that I don't have a single beauty one, until now. This Bobbi Brown tome, is from a clear industry vet. Pretty Powerful is a manual full of tips that Brown has perfected from years on the job, including interviews with her amazing arsenal of celeb friends, etc. I find it admirable what she's been able to build and I love that it's all in book form for me to keep near for constant inspiration.

One To Watch: Cameo

I just got excited because I came across an exciting new label, courtesy of Because i'm addicted. The line, Cameo, is pretty avant garde. It's full of architectural shapes, vivid prints and really unique designs that take a bit of gusto to wear, but they're incredibly fashion-forward and could easily be incorporated into any wardrobe. I'm a huge fan of what I already see, and would love to pair some of the pieces with something as simple as a white silk blouse, grey cashmere hoodie, or even a plain crewneck from American Apparel. Dress the pieces down to become my own.

Streetstyle Inspiration for the Weekend

I guess you can say I've always been a sweatshirt girl. Who doesn't love the comfy, coziness of a great, fluffy sweatshirt. I recently have been wearing a souped up heather grey sweatshirt and dressing it up a bit (with slim black skinny pants and boots, or skinny jeans and loafers) and the compliments keep coming. There's something about the ease of the sweatshirt that resonates with everyone. Being able to dress it up just makes people envious that they hadn't thought of that idea first. A great way to stay comfortable for Fall.

Sunglasses from TOMS

I'm on what's got to be my fourth pair of TOMS, because as I say, they're essentially like walking on clouds--and who wouldn't like that. I just read that they also make sunglasses, which is just plain amazing. Taking a similar do-good approach to Warby Parker (1 for 1), they've launched theirs in super cool frames, case in point, the adorable cat-eye snapped here. As someone who's always looking for an easy way to update her look on the fly, sunglasses are an easy solution and these do the trick while doing good--what could be better?

SPOTTED: Made in Kind from Anthropologie

I had read tons about Anthropologie's designer capsule collections awhile back and now the proof is finally here. I think I'm so excited about these because they're working with indie designers (think TenOverSix and Timo Weiland) and the results are pieces that don't look at all mass produced. The prices aren't mass retailer prices, but fit their well-made quality. I can't wait to see these in person, they all look like they have personality to spare, which I absolutely love.

New Beauty Idea: Scented Pendants

This is a new and unique concept. Beauty and skincare guru Lisa Hoffman has joined together with jeweler extraordinaire Tom Binns for a new line of scented pendants that omit a sweet smell while still giving the appeal of great jewelry. I love the idea of design doing double-duty and I pretty much love anything that Tom Binns does, so I'm immediately intrigued. Thanks to both for going beyond the norm and looking outside the box for something entirely unique in accessory and beauty design.

Street Style Inspiration of the Day

I'm not quite sure what it is, but I want to someday be able to carry off this look. From the free-flowing dress to the red studded boots to the perfectly tousled long hair, it's everything that I'm not and yet somehow wish I were. The sweetness of the softly layered dress is perfect with the toughness of the boots, particularly the candy apple red hue and the great studded detail. Paired together they just work. The whole shot is great and though I'd put neither one of them together, they work great.

HEARD: Zara to launch Home

Zara's officially branched out into home in what I think is a really cool move on their part. From what I can tell the aesthetic isn't entirely what their fast-fashion apparel is, but I think the home decor and designs seem a bit more universal, soothing and generally palatable, which I think will definitely serve them well. I love the way these staged rooms look and would happily make them my home any day of the week.

New Line to Love: Laveer

I've always been a fan of Kate Ciepluch since she was the fashion director of all-good-things mecca Shopbop. Now she's branched out on her own and created a line of exclusively blazers. Genius. In a range of different fits, cuts and fabrications, they come in a variety of versions that bestill my preppy little heart. I am so excited that someone went this direction with a line and can't wait to see these bad boys in person.

How To: The Graphic Print Tee

Nearly every street style snapped photo I looked at this Fashion Week season sported a heavy graphic print of some sort, be it emblazoned on it a simple tee, on a scuba-like neoprene or a more conventional dress. Whatever the fit or material, the more vibrant the print, the better. I'm partial to the graphic tee paired with something else tailored and simple. It helps offset the colors and less-serious elements get balanced out. I'd wear these great graphic tees with a black pencil skirt or denim trousers and a classic schoolboy blazer. That way next season I could just swap in a new tee for an equally appealing look.

The Selby Gets Cookin'

I've been a longtime fan of Todd Selby, as he's one of the originators of voyeur photography. His looks inside people's homes have given me so many great ideas over the years, I'll always be forever grateful. His latest book, Edible Selby, is a collection of all of the food shots he's taken all over the world. A great combo if cookbook and coffee table collectible, it's got the best of both worlds, plus plenty of inspiration to get you back in the kitchen--it reminds of you of the artistry behind it all.

Street Style Inspiration: Art

I am 100% obsessed with this photo. The subject, Mira Duma, has become a complete street style star, and overwhelming sensation, coming from Russia and extremely popular with photogs and designers, alike. She's absolutely stunning--and petite--and in this straight-off-the-runway get-up, she looks like a modern-day reincarnation of Magritte's The Son of Man. I think it's so inventive the way she's complete the look with a bowler hat and yet continues to make the look so hers--and so feminine. It's no wonder everyone follows her every sartorial move with baited breath.

Tibi's New Approach to Footwear

Tibi has taken the design story to the next level--and made their prints accessible in a totally different sort of way. Taking plain white canvas Jack Purcells, Chuck Taylors and Vans, the label is allowing their fans to customize sneakers with some of their hottest prints of the season. It's a great way to wear the latest trends--even if it's on your feet--and add your own personalized touch (including your initials) to your favorite kicks.

Street Style Inspiration of the Day

I started my insanely expensive candle addiction with my first Baies candle from Diptyque and after a long, wandering stroll down Boulevard Saint Germaine to their store, I fell in love anew. This sweatshirt makes me smile because it uses the brand's logo in a fresh new way. Emblazoned with "L'amour Toujourn" (love always), it sends a message and is an expressive view of fashion that is so much more than pretty prints and fashionable fabrics. Plus, it's kitschy and makes you stop in your tracks if you're a diptyque diehard comme moi.

A Personalized Bookshelf

I've begun to notice that my apartment is suspiciously devoid of personal effects. I've got the trinkets and things that mean a lot but when it comes to touches like photos and the like, they're carefully tucked away into photo albums and haven't seen the light of day since my post-collegiate years. Looking at this editor's carefully crafted bookshelf and I realize that there's something quite nice about personalizing the space a bit. It lends it a human touch that you otherwise wouldn't have and gives your tomes a personality that are completely unique--and stand out in photos just like these.

The Work Uniform

We all try and find a silhouette, a cut or a label that works best with our bodies and our routines. It's a struggle and I think if anyone got it just right we'd throw our hands up in defeat. This editor was talking about how after she had kids all she wanted was a "uniform" that was simple, something she could rely on day-in and day-out. I long for that same kind of simplicity. I think hers works because it's got a bit of an actual uniform vibe to it, but it's also fashion-forward with architectural layers, the quintessential black opaque tights and tweed that's seasonally appropriate for Fall and Winter. A few light switches and this could be a go-to look at least a few days a week.

Street Style Inspiration of the Day

There is something about a striking blue shade that is utterly timeless. Paired with near mirror-like silver accessories, a brilliant blue never loses its appeal. This look spotted on the streets of Fashion Week seems to cover all the bases in full effect. From the bold necklace to the simple yet statement shoes, there's a little something for everyone. Plus the shade is addictive.

A New Ring Idea

I've been thinking more and more about different types of rings and figuring out which ones I want to turn into my everyday pairs. I recently have come across more and more images of "upper-digit" versions and they're beginning to seem like what I should have been wearing all along. Suitable in the most delicate bands, they can be worn with regular rings at the knuckle and worn on multiple fingers for the ultimate effect. It's completely different for a new look that not everyone is wearing.
